The advantage of this tool is that it redraws much faster on the fly than changing the axis scale especially on a large matrix.

Title:

Plot Selected Region of a Matrix

Description:

PURPOSE

Interactively examine the partial area of a 3D surface, or a detail of a contour map drawn
from a matrix by moving/resizing the ROI box on a matrix in image mode.

INSTALLATION

The first version of this tool (1.0) is already included in 9.1 SR2, and do not need to be downloaded and installed again.

Download the attached addmtool_plot.OXF file, drag and drop it onto the Origin workspace to install it.

OPERATION

1) Activate the matrix window you want to examine.
Change the viewing mode to the image mode. ("View: Image Mode" menu)

Note: If you want to apply this tool to an image data, you first need to change it to the "data".
("Image: Conversion: Convert to Data" menu)

2) Enter the following command (no arguments) in the Script window followed by pressing ENTER key:

addmtool_plot

This shows a ROI box on the matrix image. You can issue this command more than once to create
multiple ROI boxes. This would be useful to examine different regions side by side, or to show
multiple plot types like showing both a contour plot and a 3D surface.

3) Pressing the triangle button at the upper right corner of the ROI box, and choose the plotting
mode of your choice - either 3D Surface (color-mapped or color-filled), Contour Plot, or Image Plot.
A separate window pops up to show the plot in the ROI. (You can customize the ROI plot.)

4) You can move or resize the ROI box, and the ROI plot will be interactively updated accordingly.
(You can also expand your ROI box to the whole layer height and/or width from the triangle button.)

5) If you want to access the partial data within the ROI box in the whole matrix, show the
Plot Details dialog box at the plot level, and press "Matrix" button at the bottom of the
dialog.

6) To close the ROI box, you can click "x" button at the top right corner of the ROI box.

KNOWN ISSUES

1. If you change the ROI plot type, the current customization will be lost.

(work-around: Copy the format before changing the plot type.)
